This two-day course in Emergency First Aid has been developed for those who are responsible for the supervision of children and babies. This will be of particular interest to Child Minders and Crèche Assistants, Playgroup personnel and anyone responsible for youth organisations. The aim of this course is to provide these persons with a sound knowledge and understanding of First Aid procedures when working with children and babies, along with the ability to recognise and treat many childhood conditions and illnesses. Although the majority of First Aid procedures are similar to those used in adult First Aid there are substantial differences in the protocols for resuscitation, choking, casualty handling and incident management. Subject to ongoing assessment, all delegates will receive an HSE recognised certificate, Appointed Person Paediatric – Emergency First Aid in the Workplace, valid for a period of 3 years. DURATION 12 hours ELIGIBILITY In order to receive the Appointed Person certificate students must be 16 years of age at the time they start the course. However, any student less than 16 years of age may receive an attendance certificate that is neither approved nor recognised by the HSE. ASSESSMENT No independent assessment is necessary. It is ongoing by the tutor. It is recommended that an assessment process be adopted in order to monitor the students throughout the course.
