A requirement for the granting of a standard O licence is that the licence holder either holds, or has access to the services of someone who holds, a Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).The CPC is a qualification issued on behalf of all EU national transport departments (DfT in the UK). CILT is an accredited training provider.

Course Delivery

The National course involves five days of tuition and one day of revision, concluding with one day of examinations. This course is available as either a day delegate or residential option.
The qualifications are assessed through a combination of multiple choice, direct answer and case study examinations.

The International course consists of an additional three days’ tuition and one day’s revision. Candidates sit an additional examination paper.

This enables the candidates to understand the subject material fully and increase their potential for gaining the qualification. It has also led to excellent results for candidates studying with us.

Separate courses are held for passenger transport, national road haulage and international road haulage.

A Standard operator’s licence is required to run a hire and reward business in the UK with a vehicle over 3.5 tonnes.

The Traffic Commissioners (the issuing authority for operator licences) require professional competence to be demonstrated. Persons will be considered 'professionally competent' by passing the examination for the Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) conducted by OCR Examinations on behalf of the Department for Transport (DfT).

The National Freight CPC course is 8 days over a 4 week period including an exam preparation day

To operate outside the UK, an International CPC must be studied and passed. It will only be issued when the operator has passed all parts of the National CPC examination.

CPC course dates:

Provisional dates for 2010 examinations are 5 March, 4 June, 10 September and 3 December. With the courses commencing the month prior to the exam.

The distance learning pack includes a large number of CPC style questions at the end of each module and includes an examination preparation pack.

CPC Awareness (Up to date Road Haulage Legislation)

Aimed at:

Newcomers to line management positions and existing jobholders who supervise a transport department. CPC holders who would like to up date their CPC knowledge 

The course will impart confidence to staff needing to constantly authorise procedures and systems of work, to comply with current legislation governing the road haulage transport industry

The course covers various modules including: core business and company law, operator licencing, taxation, driver licencing, driver’s hours and records, driver’s records, contracts of carriage, transport methods and sub contracting and vehicle costs
